Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment certification developed by the UK government and IASME. It sets out the five technical controls for businesses to protect themselves against the most common Internet-based cyber-attacks, offering protection against 80% of security breaches. What’s more, having these security measures in place displays a resilience against common attacks, to discourage cybercriminals from identifying you as a vulnerable target for future hacks.

It could also be used to secure government contracts, many of which are contingent on having Cyber Essentials accreditation as a minimum.
